Next to the kitchen, the bathroom is one of the trickiest parts of the house to renovate. It may only be a small space, but renovating a bathroom requires tremendous brainstorming and a lot of work.
For starters, make a list of the things that you don’t like in your current bathroom. Common complaints about existing bathroom range from old fixtures which no longer function properly, to peeling paint, to chipped tiles.
For your next list, make a list of what you want to have in your new bathroom. List everything you can think of – from additional storage space for towels, to magazine racks, to perhaps an iPod dock for your entertainment pleasure. Bathrooms have become more elaborate in recent years, and people have become more demanding in terms of what they want to have installed in the bathroom. Blame it on the five-star hotels which have made luxurious bathrooms trendy with those expensive LCD screens and sophisticated showers and bathtubs.
Once you have an idea of the scale of the renovation based on the lists that you made, you now have a rough idea of the amount of money you will have to spend. Fixtures are already pricey on their own, so if you want to purchase new faucets, basins, toilets and bidets, prepare to spend a lot of money. Based on prices available online, a toilet from a reputable brand such as the Italian brand Catalano costs approximately $1500.
Also, if you are environmentally-conscious, you can also check out the new brands in the market which have produced water-efficient toilets which will not only save the earth, but provide you with savings in the long-term.
For the renovation of bathrooms, it is best to hire a professional contractor as the job can turn tedious and technical. There are other things which have to be considered aside from the design and construction. You also have to ensure that the plumbing and other electrical wirings are installed correctly.
Do-it-yourself projects can be fun and less expensive, but for projects such as this, it is still best to hire the people who know it best because you don’t want to be stuck in a house without a working bathroom just because you decided to do it on your own despite you not knowing anything about renovating bathrooms.
